Water authority proposing increases every year till 2018

TÃA, Guam (Pacific Daily News, May 7, 2013) – The average Guam household could begin paying $111 a month for water beginning in October and $161 a month five years from now under Guam Waterworks Authority's (GWA) proposed rate increases.
GWA ratepayers began receiving notices in the mail over the last few days, telling them a petition for water rate increases will be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission, possibly on June 3.
If the Public Utilities Commission approves, GWA wants to start with a 16-percent increase in fiscal 2014, followed by 14.5 percent, 17.5 percent, 10 percent, and 9 percent each year through fiscal 2018.
The average household on Guam now pays for about 12,000 gallons of water used per month, said Heidi Ballendorf, GWA spokeswoman.
