Troops could be back by late January after Afghanistan tour

TÃA, Guam (Pacific Daily News, Dec. 4, 2013) – Close to 600 Guam National Guard soldiers who have spent months in Afghanistan will soon begin the process of coming home, months earlier than expected.
The soldiers won't be back on island in time for this holiday season, but they're expected to arrive back on U.S. soil around Christmas, said Maj. Josephine Blas, acting spokeswoman of the Guam National Guard.
From Afghanistan, the Guam National Guard soldiers will first go to their mobilization site at Camp Shelby, Miss., said Maj. Gen. Benny M. Paulino, Guam National Guard adjutant general.
The Guam National Guard soldiers could arrive on the island toward the latter part of January, Blas said.
Hold care packages
With the local soldiers' homecoming, Guam families can stop sending care packages to Afghanistan, Blas said.
