GUAM’S UNDERWOOD SEEKS "CHAMORRO STANDARD TIME" FOR NINTH U.S. TIME ZONE
Congressman Robert A. Underwood today introduced legislation to name the ninth time zone under U.S. jurisdiction "Chamorro Standard Time." The recognition, he said, acknowledges America’s westernmost area. In floor remarks, Congressman Underwood said his bill fills a void by giving a name to a time zone under the American flag which has no official name.
The lack of an official designation, he said, was brought to his attention by John Day of the Guam long distance carrier, Startec PCI. "When information is sent out about changes in national time, or announcements concerning time, this ninth time zone in geography, going west but first in terms of time, frequently gets ignored," Underwood said.
