Japan has handed over US$ 401,000 (FJ$ 843,000) towards the 2001 work program of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, as part of on-going annual support to the regional organization.
Japan’s Suva-based Ambassador, HE Hisato Murayama, presented the funds to the Secretary General of the Forum Secretariat, Mr. Noel Levi, CBE, during a brief ceremony today at the Secretariat. A formal agreement will be finalized later as to what activities will be funded.
Japan's contribution to the Secretariat excludes Japan’s support of the Pacific Islands Center trade office in Tokyo.
In addition to funding of the Secretariat's work program, the Secretariat is working with Japan on a $US 1 million Partnership Program (which will widen the scope of exchanges within the region) and a Development Cooperation Fund on sustainable development (using the interest from a $US 10 million...
