NOUMÉA, New Caledonia (August 1, 2002 - Oceania Flash)---New Caledonia's newly-appointed French High Commissioner, 62-year-old Daniel Constantin, arrived in the French Pacific territory on Wednesday to take up his post, RFO's Télé-Nouvelle-Calédonie reports.
Constantin (who was trained at the French National Administration School, ENA) is no stranger to the Pacific and especially New Caledonia, where he served for seven years in the 1970s.
He then worked under two French High commissioners, Jean Gabriel Eriau and Claude Charboniaud.
Constantin, since then, has held several positions as prefect in metropolitan French departments.
"Just because I was here many years ago does not mean I intend to administrate this territory with my memories," he told local media during his first press conference in New Caledonia.
