HAGATNA, Guam (Pacific Daily News, Oct. 6) – About 110 members of Guam's Air Force and Army National Guard have been deployed to Louisiana's St. Tammany Parish to provide security in the hurricane-battered state, Army National Guard Maj. George Charfauros said yesterday.
St. Tammany Parish is on the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain, across the lake from New Orleans. Sometimes referred to as "New Orleans north," its towns include Slidell and Covington, according to the parish government's Web site.
Guam Guard members are expected to be there until mid-December, Charfauros said.
Guam Guard members also will ride along with local law enforcement officials, Charfauros said, and will conduct "presence patrols," in the area.
Democratic Sen. Frank Aguon Jr., who is a captain in the Air National Guard, is among those deployed to Louisiana.
