On Monday, October 29th, Coast Guard Joint Rescue Sub-Center (JRSC) Guam received notification that two boys, 13 and 16 years old, had not returned after departing for a fishing trip off Satawal Island in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) on Sunday.
They had set sail in a 16 foot outrigger canoe and planned to return to Satawal the same day.
Small local craft have been searching without success.
A Coast Guard C-130 airplane from Barbers Point, Hawaii, joined the search on Tuesday and will search approximately 3,000 square miles today. The aircraft plans to continue searching tomorrow if the boat is not found. A Navy P-3 Orion aircraft plans to join the search today.
The FSM patrol boat FSS Independence is departing Chuuk today to join the search.
