PAPEETE, French Polynesia (November 30, 1999 - PINA Nius Online)---The Pacific Community (PC), formerly known as the South Pacific Commission, will hold its annual conference in French Polynesia beginning Monday, December 6.
Advance meetings of officials already are under way.
The two-day conference, which will be held at newly-opened Outrigger Hotel, has been given a Tahitian name, "Ta'imoana" (meaning the sacred drum of the Taputapuatea marae), by the French Polynesia government.
The theme of the conference will be the impact of new technologies on information and knowledge.
High among the business agenda items this year are the election of a new Pacific Community director-general, to succeed Australian Bob Dun, and the adoption of a new logo and flag by the regional organization.
Twenty-eight member countries will take part in the conference, as well as eight observer states (Canada, Chile, Israel, Germany, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Japan...
