Aguon-Gutierrez disagree about continuing election challenge

TÃA, Guam (Pacific Daily News, Feb. 23, 2012) – Former Gov. Carl Gutierrez and running mate Frank Aguon Jr. disagree about whether to continue challenging the 2010 gubernatorial election in court. They lost by 487 votes to Republican Gov. Eddie Calvo and Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio.
Aguon wants out of the case, and said so a year ago, according to documents filed this week in the Superior Court of Guam.
Gutierrez, who said he spent about US$40,000 on attorneys and research, is confident it can be won, and told his attorney he has been "abandoned" by Aguon, documents state.
The attorney for Gutierrez and Aguon, David Lujan, wants to be removed from the case, citing a conflict of interest because his clients are at odds. Lujan filed a motion to withdraw on Feb. 21.
