RUSSIA, SOLOMONS ‘FAST TRACK’ DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS Countries to explore technical assistance, investment, education

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Feb. 7, 2012) – Solomon Islands and Russia will be working together to fast track the proposed plan to establish a diplomatic relation between the two countries soon.
This follows a high level meeting between the Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov and the country’s minister of foreign affairs and external trade Peter Shanel, accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Robert Sisilo.
Mr Shanel and Sisilo were in Nadi, Fiji last week for the Russian Federation and the Pacific Island Countries meeting which was held on Wednesday.
Mr Sisilo in a statement over the weekend said just before the regional meeting, Mr Shanel had a separate meeting with Mr Lavrov.
And both of them discussed a number of issues of interest to both countries.
