HONOLULU (July 1, 1997 - PIDP/CPIS) ---Hawaiian Airlines has added a third round trip to its weekly Honolulu - Pago Pago flight schedule for the months of July and August.

At the same time, the Honolulu-based airline announced that its first class return fares on the route now cost US$200 more. The new price is $1,278. Coach excursion fares also have been raised another $70, to $699 round trip.

Keoni Wagner, Hawaiian's Senior Director for Corporate Communications, said it is the first fare increase on the route in over year. Airline operating costs continue to rise, he noted, and with the addition of a third weekly trip between American Samoa and Hawaii, the additional ticket costs will help protect the profitability of the South Pacific route.

Wagner pointed out that special senior citizen and student fare are not being increased and the lowest coach fare on the route, requiring a 30-day advance purchase, remains at $499.

All Hawaiian Airlines flights between Pago Pago and Honolulu utilize DC-10 wide-bodied jet aircraft.
