FIJI CONFERENCE CONSIDERS HERITAGE STRATEGIES

SUVA, Fiji (July 17, 1997 - PACNEWS)---Delegates from throughout the Pacific Islands region gathered in Suva, Fiji's capital, Wednesday for the opening of a UNESCO sponsored conference on ways to preserve hundreds of Pacific historical treasures.

The conference will consider ways in which important Pacific archaeological and historical sites can best be identified and maintained

Delegates from 10 Pacific areas, including Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii are participating in the Suva session. The third "world heritage global strategy" meeting ends on Friday.
