PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (July 21, 1997 - Samoa News)---Legislation proposing pay raises for American Samoa's Governor and Lieutenant Governor will go before the House Budget and Appropriations Committee this week.

Proposed for the Governor is an annual salary increase from $50,000 to $65,000, and from $45,000 to $55,000 for the Lieutenant Governor.

Governor Tauese Sunia hinted earlier this year that if such legislation is passed, he will veto it. However, some lawmakers, according to the Samoa News, believe the Governor will change his mind once the bill is passed.
