HOINIARA, Solomon Islands (July 25, 1997 - PACNEWS)---The Australian businessman at the center of the Anuha Island Resort re-development project in the Solomon Islands, John Alexander, has welcomed the stand taken by Central Province Premier Peter Manetiva.

The Premier wants all plans to re-develop the resort, which was destroyed by fire ten years ago, to be suspended until claims by Smith that he has power of attorney over Anuha are adjudicated legally.

Premier Manetiva said his government also wants the alleged fabrication of court evidence resulting in a contempt of court order against Smith investigated, to find out the truth.

Speaking from Brisbane, Smith reiterated that he has authentic and irrevocable power of attorney over Anuha, signed by the principal owners of the island and witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
