PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (July 27, 1997 - Samoa News)---The American Samoa National Olympic Committee has not yet decided how to respond to a formal protest from Fiji about the 5th South Pacific Mini-Games.

Fiji, concerned that three events they want included in the Mini-Games are not scheduled, wants the 3,000 walk-run, steeplechase, and marathon events added.

Meantime, the netball competition at the games, with Tonga's withdrawal, is down to six nations.

Netball has attracted the fewest number of competing countries of the eleven sports now scheduled to be contested.

The Tongan team withdrew from the netball competition as a result of a recent conflict between two Tongan high schools following a rugby match. All school sports have been canceled for the remainder of the school year. Many members of the Tongan netball team are high school students.
