APIA, Samoa (July 28, 1997 - PACNEWS)---New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jim Bolger, will visit Samoa at the end of August.

The visit will coincide with the third commemoration of the Treaty of Friendship between the two South Pacific countries.

Although an official announcement of the visit has not been made, Deputy New Zealand High Commissioner in the Samoan capital of Apia, Dr. Penny Riding, says Bolger's visit to Samoa will be part of a tour of a number of Pacific Islands region countries.

The Treaty of Friendship between New Zealand and Samoa was signed in 1962, while the first commemoration of the treaty was held in 1995.

Under the treaty's terms, Samoa receives technical, administrative, and other forms of ongoing assistance from its former colonial ruler.
