FIJI PM RABUKA MAY TAKE ON ADDITIONAL PORTFOLIO

SUVA, Fiji (August 24, 1997 - PACNEWS)---Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka's portfolio soon may include that of Minister of National Planning.

Senator Filipe Bole, who currently holds the post, is a candidate for Secretary General of the South Pacific Forum. If selected, he would replace Ieremia Tabai of Kiribati, whose term expires at the end of this year.

If endorsed for the Forum position, Bole would have to relinquish his Senate and Ministerial appointments.

Rabuka says there is no point in having anyone new replace Bole as planning minister since the next Fiji general elections will take place in the near future.

Usually dependable Suva sources say top Fiji officials lobbied visiting Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander, during his visit to Fiji last week, to support Bole's Forum candidacy.
