HONIARA, Solomon Islands (August 24, 1997 - PACNEWS)---Effective October 1, travelers no longer will be able to exchange money at Henderson International Airport, the main gateway to the Solomon Islands.

The National Bank of the Solomon Islands (NBSI), which operates a branch in the airport terminal, has decided to close down the agency for financial reasons.

NBSI General Manager Ted Murray says the closure is part of the bank's efforts to reduce operational expenses and minimize security risks. With the closure of the airport office, NBSI also no longer will collect passenger departure tax fees on behalf of the Solomon Islands government.

Henderson International Airport is located on the main island of Guadalcanal just outside the Solomon Islands' capital of Honiara.
