CONTROVERSIAL PRESIDENT OF NIUE UNION RE-ELECTED

ALOFI, Niue (September 7, 1997 - PACNEWS)---The controversial President of the Niue Public Servants Association (NPSA), Maru Talagi, has been re-elected to union's top post.
At its annual general meeting last week, the NPSA membership also re-elected all other executive members, the Niue Economic Review reports.
Talagi was dismissed, then reinstated, but later demoted after speaking out about moves to cut the public service in a bid to balance the budget.
Talagi says he's taking the employing authority, the Niue Public Service Commission, to court over his dismissal.
