HONIARA, Solomon Islands (October 6, 1997 - PACNEWS)---The Solomon Islands has expressed concern in the United Nations General Assembly about threats and actions taken against the Solomon Islands and other states that have spoken out in support of Taiwan's re-admission to the United Nations.

The concern was expressed formally by Solomon Islands Foreign Minister Patteson Oti while addressing the 52nd session of the United Nations in New York last weekend.

Oti said that the use of force threatened by China was in itself a violation of the United Nations Charter's principles and other UN resolutions. He said threats have no place in the United Nations.

Oti said Taiwan, which is fully committed to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, has the means to be an active contributor to the work of the world body.
