FIJI VICE PRESIDENT RATU SIR JOSAIA TAVAIQIA LAID TO REST

SUVA, Fiji (November 23, 1997 - PACNEWS)---Fiji's Vice President and the late Tui Vuda, Ratu Sir Josaia Tavaiqia, has been laid to rest at the chiefly village of Viseisei, near the western town of Lautoka.

Thousands of mourners gathered at the coastal village Thursday to bid him a final farewell.

Sir Josaia died at the age of 66 after a long illness.

President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, and members of the diplomatic corps joined relatives in a moving memorial service at the village's Jone Wesele Church.

Prime Minister Rabuka delivered the eulogy at which he spoke warmly of Ratu Sir Josaia and his service for his people and the nation.
