PAPEETE, French Polynesia (November 25, 1997 - Radio Australia)--- Cyclone Osea, with winds up to 60 miles per hour, is moving steadily towards the western islands of French Polynesia.

A cyclone alert now is in effect throughout French Polynesia, as Osea's winds continue to intensify.

A helicopter already has evacuated people from Scilly atoll, 300 miles west of Tahiti, which lies in Osea's path.

When Cyclone Martin hit Scilly three weeks ago, the people survived by taking shelter in a concrete water tank.

Cyclone Martin killed 28 people in the Cook Islands and French Polynesia.
