MAJOR INCREASE IN REMITTANCES TO SAMOA

APIA, Samoa (November 30, 1997 - PACNEWS)---Samoa's total private remittances for September rose to $3.1 million, which is 23 percent higher than remittances received during September 1996.

For the 9 months ending September 30, 1997, private remittances, totaling $28.1 million, were 14 percent higher than those received during the same period last year, Radio 2AP reports.

Net foreign assets fell $605,000 in September to $52.2 million, a level equivalent to 6.5 months of imports based on the current rate of importation.
