FORMER SAMOA AMBASSADOR TO U.S. WENDT PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO FRAUD CHARGES

APIA, Samoa (December 3, 1997 - Radio Australia)---Former Samoa Ambassador to the United States, Tuaopepe Felix Wendt, has pleaded not guilty in the Samoa Supreme Court to 12 counts of conspiracy to defraud by improperly issuing passports.

The offenses are alleged to have been committed in Apia, Washington, and China between February 1992 and August 1994.

Last month, Wendt pleaded not guilty to 16 other charges in connection with the same four Samoan passports.

Wendt has been remanded on continuing bail until his trial, set for April of next year.
