NEW CALEDONIAN BANK CHANGING NAME

NOUMEA, New Caledonia (December 4, 1997 - PIDP/CPIS)---The Noumea-based Banque de Nouvelle Calédonie is changing its name to Bank of Hawaii - Nouvelle Calédonie.

Shareholders of the financial institution, a subsidiary of Bank of Hawaii International, Inc., announced the name change during a meeting in Noumea Thursday.

The President of the New Caledonia financial institution, W. Michael Ord, said the name change will better reflect the bank's relationship to its parent organization "and the synergism of our sister banks throughout the organization."

Banque de Nouvelle Calédonie was formed in 1974 with Crédit Lyonnais and Bank of Hawaii as the majority shareholders. In 1996, Bank of Hawaii acquired most of Crédit Lyonnais' holdings and attained a 91 percent ownership of the bank.
