VANUATU’S OMBUDSMAN CALLS FOR RESIGNATIONS OVER PASSPORT SALES

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (December 10, 1997 Radio Australia)---Vanuatu’s ombudsman has called for Prime Minister Serge Vohor and Foreign Minister Vital Soksok to resign over a scandal involving the sale of Vanuatu passports to Asians.

Ombudsman Marie-Noelle Patterson, in a report, says Vohor and Soksok both were actively involved in the illegal sales.

Her report also alleges that South Korean businessman Jae Yong Jung was at the center of the passport scheme, promising Vanuatu $330 million from sales.
