MEASLES IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN UNDER WAY IN NAURU

YAREN, Nauru (December 16, 1997 - PACNEWS)---The Nauru Public Health Department has embarked on a measles immunization campaign as a preventive measure against the current outbreak of measles infection in the South Pacific.

Parents and guardians have been urged to take their children to the Nauru General Hospital, where a mass immunization program is under way, Radio Nauru reports.

Last week, medics also visited schools to administer the measles immunization shots there.

All children between nine months and 15 years of age have been requested to participate in the immunization program.

The campaign is supported by the World Health Organization.
