APIA, Samoa (December 21, 1997 PACNEWS)---The Samoan government says it now cannot account for 150 passports, for which there are no references in official receipt books or other Immigration Departmental records.

Secretary to the Prime Minister's Department, Vaasatia Poloma Komiti, says it is presumed the passports have been sold illegally. An investigation is continuing, he added

The alleged illegal issuing of passports has led to charges being filed against former Ambassador to the United States Tuaopepe Felix Wendt and three immigration officials, whose cases are scheduled to be heard in court next year. Two other government officials remain suspended and under investigation.
