NEW U.S. PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS IN KIRIBATI

TARAWA, Kiribati (December 30, 1997 - PACNEWS)---A new group of 30 U.S. Peace Corps volunteers has arrived in Kiribati and now is participating in an intensive cultural familiarization program on the central Kiribati island of Aranuka.

Each Peace Corps participant is living with a different family, learning the Kiribati language and local customs.

Following four weeks of acculturation on Aranuka, the volunteers will meet in the Tarawa capital area for specific assignments.

Most of the 30 Peace Corps participants are expected to serve as teachers in the Micronesian nation's secondary schools.
