1998 CRUCIAL YEAR FOR KIRIBATI: PRESIDENT TITO

TARAWA, Kiribati (January 4, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Kiribati President Teburoro Tito says 1998 will be a crucial year for his nation politically.

In a New Year’s message, Tito reminded the country’s voters that general elections will be held this year and revisions to the Micronesian nation’s constitution will be implemented.

He called on all I-Kiribati to help make Kiribati a better place in which to live.

The President also noted that 1997 had been a good year for government revenue, with increased earnings from foreign fishing fleets’ licensing fees, the sale of passports and higher customs tax collections.
