NEW SOLOMON ISLANDS GOLD DISCOVERY NEAR SURFACE

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 4, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The discovery of new gold deposits in the Gold Ridge Mine area of Central Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands is especially good news for the Ross Mining Company of Australia at a time when world gold prices are low.

Director of Geology Don Tolia says this is because the high grade gold is very close to the surface and will be relatively cheap to mine.

The new deposits, Tolia says, are within the mine area but were not found during initial prospecting work.

The first gold bars from the $Au69million ($US45 million) project are expected to be produced by June of this year.
