HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 2, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Solomon Islands Governor General Sir Moses Pitakaka has urged the country's leaders to aspire to better leadership standards, and not allow their integrity to be questioned.

Sir Moses made the comments during his New Year’s Day message to the nation.

He said in the past 20 years, national leaders have been accused of corruption and of serving themselves rather than the interest of the people.

The Governor General said transparency and accountability must be the goal of the Solomon Islands leaders and they must not leave any room for suspicion by the voters.

Leaders must always remember the national motto, he said, which is "To Lead Is To Serve."
