PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (January 4, 1998 - Samoa News)---Governor Tauese Sunia is recovering at his "Mauga-O-Alii" residence following minor surgery to his right ankle.

The Governor has not been reporting to work while following "doctor’s orders" to take it easy and stay off his feet.

Tauese, who suffers from occasional bouts of gout, was reportedly complaining of a bruised ankle before the surgery was performed at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center several days before Christmas.

A spokesman told Samoa News that the Governor should be back at work "in full force" later this week. In the meantime, he is communicating with his staff by telephone.
