HONOLULU, Hawaii (January 5, 1998 - PIDP/CPIS)---The American Red Cross office in Honolulu has received a contribution of $US25,000 from the GTE Corporation to assist victims of last month’s Typhoon Paka disaster on Guam.

The donation was arranged through the efforts of GTE Hawaiian Tel.

A Red Cross spokesperson says since Typhoon Paka struck the northwest U.S. territory December 17, the organization has provided emergency support for 3,105 Guam families and served victims over 23,400 meals. The assistance was made possible, the spokesperson noted, because of generous contributions from individuals, businesses, and other organizations.
