SUVA, Fiji (January 6, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Fiji’s Minister of Health, Leo Smith, says the ministry has been inundated with applications from overseas doctors seeking employment in the South Pacific country.

Applications began flooding in, he noted, after Fiji announced that it was experiencing a shortage of doctors. Most of the applications are from Asian countries.

Smith says many of the doctors wanting to practice in Fiji are highly trained specialists.
