HONOLULU, Hawaii (January 7, 1997 - PIDP/CPIS)---Guam’s public schools are now scheduled to reopen Thursday morning.

The post year-end holiday reopening was pushed forward from Monday because of unstable power and water conditions in the aftermath of Typhoon Paka.

Some of the 19 schools reopening will remain on a shortened academic schedule, however, as work on resolving utility problems continues.

Guam Department of Education officials say normal school schedules should return to the U.S. North Pacific territory next week.
