NO REPORTS OF INJURIES FROM NEW CALEDONIA EARTHQUAKE

NOUMEA, New Caledonia (January 6, 1998 - Radio Australia)---Officials in New Caledonia say there have been no reports of injuries or damage following a powerful earthquake Monday.

The quake measured seven on the Richter Scale, and its epicenter was about 350 kilometers east of the Isle of Pines, New Caledonia’s southernmost point.

The quake and several aftershocks were felt throughout the French territory, located east of Australia and south of Vanuatu.
