HONOLULU, Hawaii (January 12, 1998 - PIDP/CPIS)---In the Northern Mariana Islands, Pedro Pangelinan Tenorio was sworn in Monday (Sunday Honolulu time) as Governor of the U.S. North Pacific commonwealth for the third time.

The schedule of events included a public inauguration ceremony at Saipan’s American Memorial Park, followed by a buffet lunch for 3,000 people.

Tenorio, who served two terms in the 1980s, won last November’s election in a campaign against his nephew, then Governor Florian C. Tenorio, and Lieutenant Governor Jesus C. Borja.

In separate ceremonies, the Commonwealth’s legislature and Washington representative also were sworn in Monday.

An invitation-only Governor’s Inaugural Ball took place Monday evening at the Commonwealth’s Diamond Hotel.
