APIA, Samoa (January 11, 1998 - PACNEWS)---A full scale cocoa and chocolate processing plant will begin operations in Samoa’s capital of Apia later this month.

The Wilex Manufacturing Company facility, according to Managing Director Eddie Wilson, will produce a full variety of cocoa by-products locally, including cocoa butter and cocoa powder, 2AP Radio reports.

Wilson says the plant, construction of which recently was completed, will be the first of its kind in the South Pacific islands. The only similar operation regionally, he noted, is the Cadbury facility in Singapore.
