FIJI SOLDIERS JOIN FIGHT AGAINST DENGUE FEVER

SUVA, Fiji (January 25, 1998)----Fiji military troops have joined police and health department workers in the fight against the national dengue fever epidemic, being spread by mosquitoes.

An environmental clean up campaign to destroy mosquito breeding grounds will be carried out by soldiers Tuesday at schools close to military establishments, The Daily Post reports.

In a related development, the Ministry of Health has received a grant of $F 73,000 ($US 38,000) from the Japanese government to purchase chemical spraying equipment and conduct dengue fever prevention community awareness programs.
