SUVA, Fiji (January 25, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---About 80 employees of Fiji's ANZ Bank are likely to lose their jobs over the next few months as the bank goes through a major cost-saving restructuring.

The figure was disclosed last week by Bank Employees Union leader Diwan Shankar during a special meeting in Suva of ANZ Bank union members, Radio Fiji reports.

Shankar said the union, which has not been consulted, is not pleased with the bank's restructuring plans.

ANZ's Fiji General Manager, Robin Taylor, confirmed that a number of employees will lose their jobs, but did not say how many. The actual figure will be released later this week, after management meets with staff.
