YAREN, Nauru (January 30, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---Five members of the Nauru Parliament have lost their seats for refusing to apologize to House Speaker Kenan Adeang.

During February last year, the five were suspended for offending Adeang in comments made about him in a newsletter article, Radio Nauru reports. The radio did not reveal the contents of the article.

The speaker asked the five Parliament members (MPs) to apologize. But after their continued refusal, President Kinza Clodumar moved a motion in Parliament, which passed, requiring the offending members to apologize.

Since the legislators remained unapologetic, another motion, giving the five legislators two additional months to apologize, was passed in November.

The two-month deadline now has passed and the MPs have been dismissed from the House.
