PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (February 11, 1998 - PACNEWS)---To increase coconut industry earnings, Papua New Guinea's Copra Marketing Board (CMB) is beginning experimental work on developing an expanded range of coconut by-products, The National reports.

CMB general manager Joe Bae said plans are underway to develop more commercially viable "edible and non-edible" products from the coconut tree.

Promising edible by-products include coconut biscuits, cream, water, chocolate, wine, vodka, and other drinks.

Non-edible experimentation will involve coconut fiber, timber, furniture, charcoal and activated carbon, as well as building improved husking machines and copra dryers.
