AFTER 40 YEARS, SAMOAN APPOINTED TO HEAD AMERICAN SAMOA CANNERY

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (February 14, 1998 - Samoa News)---For the first time in Samoa Packings cannery's 40-year history, a Samoan has been appointed General Manager. Herman Gebauer, a 26 year employee of the company took over the post February 1. Formerly, he was the cannery's plant operations manager.

He credits his promotion to the combined effort of plant employees and management staff which "yielded the results that the corporate company wanted in the last few years."

He said he will strive to maintain Samoa Packings' mission, which is to be "the company of choice."

The cannery employs 2 000 people and is owned by Chicken of the Sea International.

Gebauer is a graduate of Marist Brothers School in American Samoa, Chanel College in Samoa, and Kansas Teacher Training College.

He and his wife, Etta Oldehaver, have eight children.
