TARAWA, Kiribati (February 19, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---A shortage of rice and flour on Kiribati's Beru Island has forced the Kiribati Protestant Church's secondary school there to require first and second year students to live off campus.

It is the second time the school has been affected by food shortages in the past year, Radio Kiribati reports.

A food supplier from Tarawa, Abamwakoro Trading, says a cargo ship transporting supplies to areas south of the capital ran out of rice and flour before reaching Beru. Another ship, the MV Nei Momi, is expected to depart for the island soon.
