UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC - FIJI BANS SMOKING

SUVA, Fiji (March 1, 1998 - PACNEWS/Ioane)---A ban on smoking has been imposed at the University of the South Pacific's (USP) Laucala campus in Fiji's capital, Suva. According to the USP's Weekly Bulletin, the university safety committee has prohibited smoking at USP because of growing concern worldwide about health hazards caused by nicotine and cigarette smoke.

Smoking will not be allowed in any university building or enclosed area, including all offices, classrooms, the library, corridors, toilets, dining areas and student residence halls.

Exempt from the ban are staff residences.
