HONIARA, Solomon Islands (March 9, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The International Monetary Fund says it appreciates the Solomon Islands government recognizing the urgency of the economic problem it is facing.

IMF Deputy Division Chief for the Asia and Pacific department, Lazaros Molho, says the challenge now is for government officials to communicate this urgency to all sectors of the community.

Molho says it is important that politicians, trade unions, non government organizations, churches and the public realize the need for the painful fiscal reform the Solomon Islands government is undertaking and to cooperate in achieving new economic goals.

All must share the burden required to achieve growth and prosperity, he says, or there will be chaos.
