AUCKLAND, New Zealand (March 10, 1998 - Radio Australia)---A New Zealand Maori group has demanded the return of the preserved heads of 35 Maori warriors held by New York's Museum of Natural History.

Maori entertainer, Dalvanius Prime, leaves for New York today, with a letter from New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley supporting his application that the heads be returned to New Zealand.

The tattooed heads, known as moko mokai, were collected by museums around the world, after a lucrative trade developed in them during the last century -- the largest collection being held in New York.
