TUVALU MARITIME SCHOOL RECEIVES FRENCH

ELECTRIFICATION GRANT

FUNAFUTI, Tuvalu (March 18, 1998 - PACNEWS)---The French Development Bank will provide a grant of $US 430,000 to the Tuvalu government for construction of a new electrical power plant at the Tuvalu Maritime School.

When completed, the project will permit full utilization of workshop training tools and other facilities, which currently cannot be used effectively because of inadequate and unreliable power.

The New Caledonian Energy Company will assist the Tuvalu Electricity Corporation in implementing the project.

The French government also has announced plans to assist in upgrading navigational aids at the Funafuti International Airport.

Earlier, the French government supported the building of the La Perouse Primary School building in the capital, Funafuti.
