MASSIVE DECREASE IN ASIAN TOURISTS TO FIJI

SUVA, Fiji (March 18, 1998 - PACNEWS)---Fiji recorded a massive decrease in the number of tourists from Japan and South Korea during February, compared to the same month last year.

The drop in visitor arrivals from South Korea totaled 86 percent, while Japanese numbers were down over 45.5 percent, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

Overall, with just over 2,500 tourists arriving in Fiji during February, official figures show a 13.5 percent decrease in visitor numbers compared to February 1996.

With the exception of the United Kingdom and the United States, all of Fiji's major visitor source areas recorded decreases, the Bureau of Statistics reports.
